Gates became the sweetheart of British TV audiences when he finished second in the original series of Pop Idol in 2002, going on to sell millions of records across the next few years. Not content with just being a singer, he ventured into the West End with a starring role in Les Miserables and has since continued to be a regular on our screens, recently winning the 2023 edition of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
